Baking her own birthday cake

Today (July 7) is my youngest daughter’s birthday. She turns 16.
Several of her friends have held Sweet 16 birthday parties, but most of them have been a family dinner out with a few friends or a sleepover, nothing fancy.
Thankfully, she and her friends are pretty low-key as a rule.
So in deciding how to celebrate her birthday, we offered to host a sleepover if she wanted and spring for pizza or chicken or something.
She’s become known among her crowd as a kitchen whiz, so she asked if, instead of a night party, she could invite a half-dozen or so of her friends over for a baking party at lunchtime.
She and her friends planned to make blueberry muffins, oatmeal-chocolate chip cookies (a family specialty) and her birthday cake.
Her 19-year-old brother is available for quick trips to the store for unexpected needs, but I imagine he’ll most likely stay out of the way of the chaos, except to help eat the evidence.
I just hope I had enough aprons …

What a great idea for a party! I know your daughter will remember this particular birthday fondly as the “first time Mom trusted me to do something on my own.” Hope it’s a great success! BTW, I’m hosting a Giveaway, starting tomorrow—please drop on by!
